Tenant police verification in Gurgaon, Delhi and Noida

Police verification of tenants is required across Delhi NCR. It is free or low cost, can be done online, and protects both the landlord and the tenant. Here is how it works in each city.

Use only official portals. Police websites and apps change often. Check the steps and fee on the official site, and never send Aadhaar or ID photos to an unknown agent or WhatsApp number.

What you need

Gurgaon (Gurugram): Haryana Police HarSamay portal

  1. Go to the Haryana Police citizen portal, HarSamay (harsamay.gov.in), and register with your mobile number.
  2. Under citizen services, choose Tenant Verification.
  3. Enter the landlord's details, then the tenant's details, and upload the ID and photo.
  4. Check everything carefully: you can't edit the form after submitting.
  5. Pay the fee shown, if any, and save the acknowledgement.
  6. Download the verification report from the portal once the local police station completes it.

You can also submit a filled form with ID copies at the police station covering the property.

Delhi: Delhi Police website or app

  1. On the Delhi Police website (delhipolice.gov.in) or the official Delhi Police app, open citizen services and choose Tenant Registration.
  2. Create an account and verify it with the OTP sent to your phone.
  3. Fill in the landlord's and tenant's details and upload the tenant's photo and ID.
  4. Submit and save or print the generated form with its registration number.
  5. The local police station checks the details and the status updates online.

Noida and Ghaziabad: UP Police

Use the official UP Police citizen app, UPCOP, or the UP Police website, and look for tenant verification under citizen services. You can also apply at the local police station.

Why it matters for tenants too

A verified tenancy is a record that you lived at the address. It helps with bank accounts, deliveries and address changes, and is proof if a dispute ever comes up. Keep a copy of the acknowledgement with your rent agreement and receipts.

Frequently asked questions

Is tenant police verification mandatory in Delhi and Gurgaon?

Yes. Police in Delhi and Gurugram regularly issue orders that require landlords to report tenants for verification. Landlords who ignore the order can be prosecuted for disobeying it.

Who should apply, the landlord or the tenant?

The landlord is responsible for getting the tenant verified. The tenant provides the documents and details. Many landlords ask the tenant to fill the form, but the application is made in the landlord's name.

How much does tenant police verification cost?

The fee is small and varies by state, and in some places the service is free. The portal shows the current fee before you pay, so ignore any agent asking for more.

How long does verification take?

It usually takes from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the police station. You can track the status on the portal where you applied.

Does a rooms-in-shared-flat tenant also need verification?

Yes. Every adult tenant living in the property should be verified, including people renting a single room or replacing a flatmate.
